THE SORORITY Safe Places Commitment Charter

By joining THE SORORITY Safe Places network, you become a link in the chain of mutual aid that makes it possible, in just a few moments, to offer an initial space of support and safety to anyone who needs it in order to:

  • quickly find shelter from prying eyes and catch their breath for a few moments

  • contact the authorities if desired, a local organization, or a loved one

  • receive care and support as quickly as possible

Goal: Never again to be or feel alone, no matter what happens.

Important reminder: You do not replace the authorities or qualified professionals. You are a source of additional support and assistance.

Simple and quick steps for welcoming and referring individuals are detailed in the materials you will receive upon joining:

  • the “Safe Place” poster, which lists actions and useful numbers to display internally for your teams (break room, storage area, etc.)

  • the online awareness module (10 min) to share regularly with your teams to keep the right reflexes in mind

This charter sets out the principles of your commitment.

AGAINST ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE:

LET’S CHOOSE CITIZEN MUTUAL AID. TOGETHER.

Your commitments to joining our Network of Safe Places

Welcome everyone without discrimination or judgment.

You welcome everyone, regardless of age, gender, appearance, background, language, or circumstances. No one has to justify themselves to be welcomed.

The feeling of danger belongs to the person who feels it. It is not up to you or your team to assess its validity.

Preserve people’s confidentiality.

What is said and what happens during this visit remains within your facility.

No information about the person being welcomed, their identity, or their situation is shared publicly, on social media, or used for communication purposes.

Regularly raise awareness within your team.

Everyone who joins your team is made aware of the program using the resources we provide.

Support must be consistent, regardless of who is on duty that day. The “Safe Place” poster remains visible in an area accessible to the entire team (storage room, office).

Provide guidance, without taking over.

You provide an initial space for support and safety, and you refer them to the appropriate resources: authorities, organizations, or loved ones. You do not replace emergency services or specialized organizations.

Designate a Safe Place contact person.

A member of your team, usually the facility manager, is designated as the Safe Place contact person.

They serve as the liaison with THE SORORITY FOUNDATION (contact@jointhesorority.com) whenever desired or necessary, share the awareness materials with new team members, and notify us of any changes.

Keep your information up to date.

Please notify us of any relevant changes (hours, address, permanent closure, etc.) so that the information displayed on the app’s map remains as up-to-date as possible.

What You Don’t Have to Do

You don’t have to resolve the situation or take on responsibilities that are beyond your scope. As much as possible, depending on the situation, you agree never to put yourself in danger or put your team in a difficult position.

Use of the Safe Place Visuals

THE SORORITY's Safe Place logo, sticker, and materials are provided to you to signal your commitment. They may not be modified or used for commercial or promotional purposes. However, you may communicate about them at any time.

Duration of Your Commitment

Your commitment is open-ended. We’ll stay in touch via email to keep you informed of updates and changes to our awareness campaigns as needed. Please contact us whenever you need assistance or have feedback to share. You may leave the network at any time by simply sending an email request.

Integrity of the Program

In the event of a serious breach of the principles of this charter, or if reports are received from our community or partners regarding how people are welcomed at your establishment, THE SORORITY FOUNDATION may remove the establishment from the program without notice. Action will be taken based on the nature and severity of the reported incidents, including referral to the relevant authorities where appropriate.

If Needed

If you observe or experience behavior that violates this charter, or if a situation is beyond your scope, please email us at contact@jointhesorority.com. Every report is handled with care.

Reminder: In case of immediate danger, contact local and relevant authorities immediately.

Personal Information

Your contact person’s details (name, email, phone number) are used by THE SORORITY FOUNDATION solely for the purposes of managing the Safe Places program. They are neither shared nor used for commercial purposes. In accordance with GDPR regulations, you may request to view, modify, or delete this information at any time by contacting contact@jointhesorority.com.

THANK YOU FOR STANDING WITH US

Thank you for your involvement and commitment. Thank you for being part of this chain of action. We are all doing our best, in our own way, to support, assist, and guide others. This global mobilization encourages people to speak out, enabling faster and more appropriate detection and intervention to help victims escape violence.

So that no one is ever alone, or feels alone. Anywhere. At any time. No matter what happens.

We act together.
